Johannes Sibanyoni addresses Madlanga Commission regarding industry status and WhatsApp evidence
Johannes “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, a prominent taxi industry leader, appeared before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday to address his professional status and contested evidence regarding his relationship with suspended police Sergeant Fannie Nkosi.
During the proceedings, Commissioner Sandile Khumalo challenged Sibanyoni regarding the authenticity of WhatsApp messages extracted from Nkosi’s phone. While Sibanyoni expressed reservations about the digital material, the commission noted that Nkosi, who was legally represented, had confirmed the messages were authentic and raised no objections to their use as evidence. Sibanyoni characterized Nkosi as a social acquaintance who provided occasional information.
Sibanyoni also addressed media reports suggesting he had retired from the taxi industry following previous testimony. He denied these claims, asserting that he remains the president of the South African Local and Long Distance Taxi and Bus Organisation (SALLDTBO). Additionally, he defended the Shosholoza Club, describing it as a legitimate cultural savings and mutual-support arrangement rather than a conduit for improper financial flows.
