John Agyekum Kufuor calls for borderless African awareness

Former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor has advocated for the development of “borderless awareness” across Africa to foster deeper continental cooperation and understanding. Speaking at the 2026 Broadcasters Convention, Kufuor emphasized that this concept aims to create a shared African consciousness rather than eroding national sovereignty.

Kufuor highlighted digitalization and emerging technologies as vital instruments for this integration, noting that digital platforms can facilitate the instant movement of information, knowledge, and opportunities across borders. He identified the media as a central actor in connecting young people and helping citizens engage with developments throughout the continent. He also suggested that initiatives like the Africa Public Interest Media Initiative could leverage technology to strengthen connections among African citizens and enhance the continent's role in globalization.
