John Beattie reflects on documenting Canadian far-right extremism

John Beattie, the founder and primary writer of the ARC blog, reflected on his career and the personal costs associated with his work documenting far-right extremism in Canada. Beattie noted that his research has been utilized by media outlets, including appearances on ‘The Fifth Estate’, as well as by academics such as Dr. Stephanie Carvin and Dr. Amarnath Amarasingam in their book, ‘For Blood and Soil: Far-Right Extremism in Canada’.

Despite facing personal challenges such as doxxing, Beattie expressed that his work served a significant purpose in helping others combat extremist influence. He described himself as a semi-retired expert on the Canadian far-right.
