John Boadu leads NPP National Chairman race

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing for its national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026, in Kumasi. Recent polling by Africa Policy Lens indicates that former General Secretary John Boadu is the frontrunner for the National Chairmanship, holding 38.6% of delegate support. Among decided voters, Boadu’s support rises to 65%.

His primary challenger is former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who holds 20.7% of total support. Paul Afoko currently sits in third place with 5.9%. Notably, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako has formally withdrawn from the chairmanship race.

In preparation for the vote, ballot positions have been assigned at the party headquarters in Accra. For the National Chairmanship, John Boadu secured the number one slot, followed by Sammy Crabbe (2), Paul Afoko (3), and Boakye Agyarko (4). In the race for General Secretary, Sylvester Tetteh has been assigned the first position on the ballot.
