John Boadu sparks outrage over remarks on MP Baffour Awuah

John Boadu, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman aspirant, has sparked significant controversy following remarks regarding the detention of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. Speaking outside the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters, Boadu stated, “I don’t think he’ll die there. Even if he dies there, that’s okay for us because…”

Baffour Awuah had voluntarily reported to EOCO to assist with investigations into transactions linked to SIC Life Savings and Loans, following a High Court warrant for his arrest. The investigation, according to Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, involves suspected offenses including money laundering, financial loss, and the dissipation of public funds.

Boadu criticized the detention methods used by EOCO, describing them as a tactic of inviting and then holding individuals. While Boadu’s comments drew widespread condemnation, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for the MP's immediate release, emphasizing that the Minority does not intend to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
