John Bolton criticizes Special Court as illegal and political
Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton has criticized the Special Court, labeling the institution as illegal. In an interview with A2CNN, Bolton asserted that the legal proceedings against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) possess a heavy political element.
Bolton expressed concerns regarding the lack of oversight for the tribunal and its potential consequences for justice. He suggested that a more appropriate solution would involve Kosovo and Serbia utilizing their own independent judicial systems to investigate and prosecute their former leaders to foster political maturity and resolve past conflicts.
Regarding whether the Hague-based tribunal sets a dangerous precedent for other liberation movements, Bolton noted that public interest in such bodies has waned, particularly as the oversight expected from the countries that established them has disappeared.
