John Britas urges intervention in JNU student hunger strike
Marxist Communist Party Rajya Sabha member John Britas has called for urgent intervention from President Droupadi Murmu and Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi regarding an ongoing hunger strike at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The indefinite hunger strike, which began on October 3, has entered its 17th day. Britas expressed concern over the deteriorating health of the participating students and the impact of disciplinary actions on campus democratic participation.
In letters addressed to the President, who serves as the university’s visitor, and the Education Minister, Britas demanded the reversal of expulsion orders against elected representatives of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU). He also called for the withdrawal of allegedly objectionable provisions in the Chief Proctor's Office (CPO) regulations and a swift resolution to the students' long-standing grievances.
