John Carney releases lyric video for new musical film ‘Power Ballad’

Director John Carney has released a lyric video for ‘How To Write A Song (Without You)’, the lead track from his new musical film ‘Power Ballad’. This marks Carney’s first theatrical release in ten years, following works such as ‘Once’ and ‘Sing Street’.

The film stars Paul Rudd as Rick, a wedding band frontman in Ireland who once dreamed of being a singer-songwriter, and Nick Jonas as Danny, a former boy band member. The plot follows the fallout after an unfinished song written by Rick becomes a global hit after being arranged and released by Danny.

The movie explores themes of music, friendship, family, and personal redemption. It is scheduled for a theatrical release in Japan on December 25, 2025.
