John Carney's musical film 'Power Ballad' set for Japan release

Director John Carney’s new musical film, titled ‘Power Ballad’ (Japanese title: ‘Kimi ni Okuru Saikyo no Uta’), is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan on December 25. This marks Carney’s first theatrical release in ten years since ‘Sing Street’.

The film follows the lives of two men: Rick, a wedding band frontman played by Paul Rudd, who abandoned his singer-songwriter dreams for family, and Danny, played by Nick Jonas, a former boy band member. After a chance musical session, an unfinished song by Rick becomes a global hit through Danny’s arrangement, leading to a complex journey of success, conflict, and personal rediscovery.

The production, which premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival, features original music and explores themes of passion, friendship, and family. The Japanese release includes a trailer showcasing the film’s emotional melodies.
