John Carpenter launches 'Cathedral' graphic novel and heavy‑metal soundtrack
Horror filmmaker and musician John Carpenter announced a multimedia project titled *Cathedral*. The graphic novel will be released on August 4 by Storm King Comics, while the companion heavy‑metal album drops on August 7 via Sacred Bones Records. A lead single, “Lord(s) of the Underground,” is already streaming.
The story follows a police murder at an abandoned Los Angeles cathedral that draws detectives into its catacombs, confronting a centuries‑old evil. Carpenter created the graphic novel with his wife Sandy King and writer Sean Sobczak, illustrated by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna. The album, co‑written with his son Cody Carpenter (synths) and guitarist Daniel Davies, aligns each track with a comic chapter but is also designed to stand alone.
Both the novel and album are available for pre‑order, with liner notes linking the music to the narrative.
