John Carpenter launches heavy‑metal album and graphic novel “Cathedral”

John Carpenter, together with his son Cody Carpenter and guitarist Daniel Davies, is releasing his first heavy‑metal project, the album “Cathedral”, accompanied by an original graphic novel of the same name. Inspired by a vivid dream he had in 2024, the story is set in an abandoned cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, where a police murder investigation uncovers a centuries‑old evil. The single “The Ferryman” from the forthcoming album is now available, and a visualiser for the track has been released.

The graphic novel is co‑written with producer Sandy King and writer Sean Sobczak, illustrated by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colored by Ryan Winn, and lettered by Marshall Dillon. It will be published on 4 August, with the “Cathedral” album following on 7 August via Storm King Productions. Carpenter said, “It was so cinematic and vivid … I thought, ‘I have to score this.’” The project blends heavy‑metal riffs with his signature synth atmosphere, aiming to create an immersive audio‑visual experience.
