John Carpenter releases 'Cathedral' graphic novel and album
Filmmaker and composer John Carpenter has released "Cathedral," a new project consisting of a graphic novel and an accompanying original album. The project was inspired by a dream involving an abandoned church in downtown Los Angeles featuring an elevator that leads to hell.
Carpenter collaborated on the musical score with his son, Cody, and his godson, Daniel Davies. The album features spooky instrumental tracks designed to support the narrative. The graphic novel component was developed with the help of his wife, Sandy King, a comic book publisher. Carpenter noted that he chose this medium as an alternative to the high costs associated with modern corporate filmmaking.
