John Carpenter to launch graphic novel and album at Midsummer Scream 2026

Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is set to debut his first original graphic novel, Cathedral, alongside a companion heavy‑metal‑inspired album at the Midsummer Scream horror convention in Long Beach, California, from Aug. 7‑9, 2026. The comic, co‑written with Sandy King and Sean Sobczak and illustrated by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, will be released on Aug. 4. The accompanying album, recorded with his sons Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, is slated for a Sacred Bones Records release on Aug. 7, with the single “Lord of the Underground” already streaming.

The convention will feature a VIP listening party, a signing session with Carpenter at the Storm King Comics booth, and a panel titled “Crafting Fear: The Invisible Architects of Horror.” In addition to these releases, Carpenter’s recent activities include scoring video games, attending conventions, and expanding his creative output beyond filmmaking, underscoring his ongoing influence on pop‑culture fandoms.
