John Cena announces transition to non-physical WWE roles

John Cena has clarified that he will no longer participate in physical wrestling matches, opting instead to occupy non-physical roles within the sports entertainment industry. Speaking on the podcast ‘Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend’, the 49-year-old explained that he wants to avoid setting false expectations for the audience. He noted that after 23 years, his attire serves as a signal that no match will follow, stating his primary rule is to not confuse viewers.

Cena distinguished his approach from other wrestlers like Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker, who have had various returns or physical involvements following announced retirements. He expressed a desire to avoid the conflicts and regrets associated with such returns.

Reflecting on his early career, Cena also revealed that he was once on a WWE list for potential termination. He noted that during his debut phase, he lacked a distinct personality, but a moment involving improvised rapping during a bus ride with other wrestlers helped the creative team identify a direction that eventually led to his success.
