John Cena has addressed long-standing speculation regarding his 2025 WWE heel turn, clarifying that he did not “sell his soul” to The Rock. Speaking at Fan Expo, Cena explained that the rumors stemmed from a storyline during the build to the Elimination Chamber event.
In that storyline, The Rock attempted to convince Cody Rhodes to surrender his soul, an offer Rhodes rejected. Cena subsequently turned on Rhodes to align himself with The Rock and Travis Scott. While fans interpreted this as Cena accepting a pact, Cena stated his motivation was purely professional: “I just wanted to win a championship.”
Cena emphasized that he maintains a good personal relationship with Dwayne “DJ” Johnson, noting, “We have a good relationship. I don’t need to also give him my soul.” He further remarked that he does not believe The Rock ever successfully obtained Rhodes' soul either.
