John Cena reflects on WWE retirement and Gunther's career

John Cena has concluded his active in-ring career following a lengthy retirement tour that included major appearances at Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and WrestleMania. His final match took place in December 2025, where he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cena has transitioned into a WWE ambassador role, serving as a host for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. He is also focusing on acting projects and a collaboration with Clash of Clans titled ‘Search for Cena’. Reflecting on his retirement, Cena noted that physical limitations, such as decreased sprinting speed and vertical jump, influenced his decision to step away, though he expressed a fondness for the locker room camaraderie and the adrenaline of performing.

Addressing fan criticism regarding Gunther’s subsequent booking, Cena defended the wrestler’s trajectory. He noted that career momentum does not always follow a linear path and that Gunther’s story is far from over. Cena advised younger talent to manage frustration by focusing on the opportunity to perform, emphasizing that not every match involves retiring a legend, but rather building equity and supporting the industry.
