John Cena’s 2025 heel turn at the Elimination Chamber was presented as a deliberate effort to "ruin wrestling" by delivering deliberately boring matches and alienating fans. In interviews for the Netflix series WWE Unreal, Cena explained that the plan was to make audiences dislike the product, not just his character, warning that such an approach could drive people away.

Both Cena and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque later admitted the storyline stopped resonating. Cena was the first to raise concerns, saying the angle was "too boring" and that the backlash was aimed at the company. Triple H initially tried to give the concept another chance but eventually agreed it was not working and ordered a pivot. The heel run was therefore halted before Summer Slam, and Cena returned to a fan‑favourite role, with the creative team incorporating the Judgment Day faction in subsequent matches.
