John Cornyn rejects Bo French after racist social media posts
U.S. Senator John Cornyn announced he will not vote for Republican candidate Bo French for the Texas Railroad Commission following controversial social media posts made by French. The remarks, posted on X, targeted a group of predominantly South Asian students at the University of Texas during a celebration of a football game. French described the presence of these students as a “problem” that was “far worse than anyone imagined” and suggested that the university was prioritizing foreigners over Texans.
Cornyn condemned the comments, stating that French is “an embarrassment to the Republican Party” and warned that his rhetoric could negatively impact the entire political ticket. While Cornyn has explicitly rejected French, he has not yet decided whether he will vote for the Democratic opponent, Jon Rosenthal, or leave his ballot blank. The backlash against French has included criticism from other prominent Republicans, such as Senator Ted Cruz and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows.
