John Cornyn threatens to block Todd Blanche AG nomination over anti‑weaponization fund dispute

Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn announced he will oppose the Senate Judiciary Committee’s recommendation of Todd Blanche for attorney general unless the settlement tied to former President Donald Trump’s IRS lawsuit is revised. The contested settlement created a $1.8 billion “anti‑weaponization fund” that compensates Trump allies and grants the former president and his family audit immunity.

Cornyn is demanding the fund be rescinded and the scope of tax‑audit immunity narrowed. He warned that, after losing his primary to a Trump‑backed challenger, he will use his newfound political freedom to pressure the White House and could derail Blanche’s confirmation, affecting the Justice Department’s leadership.
