John Curtis retires after 42 years as Jefferson-Morgan baseball coach

John Curtis, head baseball coach at Jefferson-Morgan, was honored at a reunion held on July 25 at the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department. Former players spanning the 1981‑2026 era attended the celebration, which highlighted his 42‑year tenure as head coach.

Curtis announced his retirement after the 2026 season, concluding a career that amassed 424 victories. His final win came in a WPIAL playoff over Union on May 11, and his last game was a 4‑1 loss on May 15. He coached the Rockets from 1981‑2003, served three years as an assistant at Penn State Fayette, returned as head coach in 2007, and also led the school’s golf team. Curtis said he will travel, watch his grandchildren play, and enjoy time with his family.
