John Cusack Unveils Graphic Novel 'Momo' at Comic‑Con, Citing Creative Freedom

American actor John Cusack announced his debut graphic novel, “Momo,” at the San Diego Comic‑Con. The book, scheduled for release on 29 September, was created in partnership with illustrator Ignacio Noé and tells the story of two 1972 escapees on a quest for an ancient artifact for television star Jackie Gleason.

Cusack explained that he turned to writing and graphic‑novel publishing to avoid “negotiating” with studios after large budgets are pledged. He said that when a studio is asked to fund a film with $20‑30 million, it seeks creative input, which he wishes to sidestep. The move reflects his broader criticism of modern Hollywood’s corporate constraints, recalling his past roles in “Grosse Pointe Blank,” “High Fidelity,” and recent projects such as “Fog of War.”
