John Davidson to watch BAFTA Scotland via video link

Tourette's campaigner John Davidson will attend the BAFTA Scotland Awards in Glasgow via a video link from a separate, relaxed space within the venue. This arrangement follows an incident during the BAFTA Film Awards in February, where Davidson's involuntary tics resulted in the shouting of a racial slur while presenters Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.

Davidson, an MBE recipient and executive producer of the film ‘I Swear’—which is based on his life and has received seven nominations at the upcoming ceremony—expressed that he was “deeply mortified” if his involuntary tics were perceived as intentional.

BAFTA Scotland stated it worked with safeguarding and inclusion experts to ensure Davidson can participate in the safest way possible for all attendees. The decision follows an independent review into the February incident, which found that BAFTA’s duty of care had fallen short regarding its planning and response. Davidson will watch the ceremony alongside family and friends from the designated separate room.
