John Deere invests $10 million in agricultural AI research

John Deere is expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities through a $10 million research and development partnership with ag-tech company Reservoir. This three-year initiative aims to develop and commercialize “rugged AI” technologies specifically for high-value crop production. Unlike laboratory-based development, the partnership will utilize Reservoir’s field-testing locations in Salinas and Sonoma, California, to test emerging tools under actual farming conditions.

Additionally, the company has introduced JD, an AI assistant integrated into its Operations Center platform. Currently available through an Early Access Program for select U.S. customers, the tool allows farmers to ask natural-language questions regarding their specific field, machine, and operational data. The assistant is designed to provide rapid insights into topics such as fuel usage, planting singulation, operator efficiency, and optimal harvest timing, aiming to transform complex datasets into actionable information.
