John E. Sununu campaigns for New Hampshire Senate seat

Republican Senate candidate John E. Sununu is running for the seat held by retiring Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire. His campaign has drawn attention for using his family name, which carries significant political weight in the state through former Governor Chris Sununu, former Governor John H. Sununu, and former state party chair Nancy Sununu.

Democratic candidate and Representative Chris Pappas has suggested that the use of the family name on campaign materials may be an attempt to confuse voters. While John and Chris Sununu have denied these claims, Chris Sununu stated that while he is supportive, candidates must run their own races independently.

Polling currently shows Pappas leading by a few points as Republicans attempt to prevent Democrats from securing key Senate seats. Sununu previously served a single term in the Senate from 2003 to 2009.
