John Eastman defends 2020 election legal actions at WashU Law

John Eastman, a former law professor and dean at Chapman University who served on Donald Trump’s legal team during the 2020 election, recently spoke at WashU Law. During the event, Eastman defended his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results and criticized what he termed “lawfare” and “barfare,” arguing that legal processes are being weaponized against conservatives.

Eastman, who advanced constitutional theories regarding the vice president’s authority to certify electoral votes, was disbarred by the California Supreme Court in April 2026. The court found that he had committed serious ethics violations by advancing false claims about the election. While Eastman maintains he provided good-faith, constitutionally grounded arguments, disciplinary authorities concluded his conduct involved deceit and misled courts and officials.
