John Farnham tribute concert set for Melbourne Rod Laver Arena

A tribute concert titled ‘The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend - The Celebration Concert’ is scheduled for September 20 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. The event will feature over 120 Australian and international artists, including Céline Dion, Jessica Mauboy, Tina Arena, Jimmy Barnes, and Keith Urban. Céline Dion is expected to participate via a remote performance.

Promoter Tony Cochrane noted that John Farnham initially declined the tribute but agreed on the condition that the event serves a fundraising purpose. Head and Neck Cancer Australia has been named the primary beneficiary of the concert.

While the concert will be live-streamed to Hoyts cinemas for those unable to attend the sold-out arena show, regional fans have expressed frustration over the lack of free-to-air television access. Critics argue that the current arrangement excludes country communities and older fans who may face mobility or travel challenges, suggesting a television broadcast or telethon format would better serve the public and fundraising goals.
