John Fetterman addresses Republican convention amid shifting polling

U.S. Senator John Fetterman addressed a Republican midterm convention via pre-recorded video to introduce Senator Dave McCormick. During the address, Fetterman described himself as a ‘common-sense Democrat’ who rejects socialism and ‘anti-American’ ways of life. Following the appearance, Fetterman issued a statement clarifying that he is a ‘lifelong Democrat who votes overwhelmingly with my party.’

Recent polling indicates a significant shift in Fetterman’s public perception in Pennsylvania. A New York Times/Philadelphia Inquirer/Siena poll released August 25 found that 73% of Republicans view Fetterman favorably, while 63% of Democrats view him unfavorably. This contrasts with data from two years ago when Democratic favorability was high and Republican favorability was low. Additionally, a July Quinnipiac survey showed that 52% of all Pennsylvania voters believe he should leave the Democratic Party.
