John Fetterman advocates for AI supremacy to counter China

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has voiced strong opposition to what he describes as “AI doomsdaying” and political hyperbole regarding data center development. Fetterman argues that maintaining AI supremacy and energy dominance is essential to United States national security, warning that American hesitation or regulatory overreaction provides a strategic advantage to China.

He has specifically rejected calls for pauses in AI development, such as those proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Fetterman has characterized such proposals as effectively advancing a “China First” agenda.

His comments follow an executive order by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro that restricts data center development in the state.
