John Fetterman denies Republican party switch after convention appearance

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has addressed growing speculation regarding a potential party switch following a video appearance at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas. During the event, Fetterman introduced Republican Senator Dave McCormick, describing him as a “great American” and stating he would reject political extremism and socialism.

Responding to questions on Capitol Hill, Fetterman emphatically denied plans to join the Republican Party, stating, “I’m not going to be a Republican! If I turn a Republican, then I’ll be a liar.” He maintained that he remains a lifelong Democrat, despite increasing ideological distance from his party. This friction has largely centered on his staunch defense of Israel and his critiques of left-wing members of the Democratic Party.

While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has expressed respect for Fetterman, the Senator’s approval rating among Democrats has reportedly declined. Fetterman has previously suggested he might leave the party if its official platform becomes “anti-Israel,” but he has clarified that he will not switch parties if Democrats win control of the Senate in November.
