John Francis Oliver dies on Sequoia National Park’s General Sherman Tree Trail

John Francis Oliver, a 79‑year‑old resident of Henderson, Nevada, died on Thursday after suffering a medical emergency on the one‑mile General Sherman Tree Trail in California’s Sequoia National Park. First responders from the National Park Service arrived quickly and provided emergency medical aid, but Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity and said no further details were released out of respect for the family. An extreme‑heat advisory was in effect that day, though officials have not linked the high temperatures to the death.
