John Hawthorne selected for B.C. Supreme Court clerkship

John Hawthorne has been selected as a judicial law clerk with the Supreme Court of British Columbia. This highly competitive role, which begins in September 2027, involves conducting legal research, reviewing case law, and assisting judges with the preparation of judicial decisions.

Before starting the clerkship, Hawthorne will complete his articling year as a student lawyer with Fulton and Company in Kamloops. Murray Sholty, a professor at Thompson Rivers University’s Faculty of Law, described the position as a transformative opportunity for law students to work on matters ranging from constitutional and Indigenous law to civil and criminal litigation.
