John Hight, president of Wizards of the Coast, will leave the role on 1 September after a two‑year tenure. The departure was disclosed in a U.S. SEC filing on 27 July. Hight will remain with the company as an advisor under a Transitional Advisory Services Agreement.

While in the advisory role he will continue to receive his $800,000 salary, but the cash bonuses that were linked to his presidential performance will no longer apply. His exit follows a $56 million impairment charge recorded by parent company Hasbro for its video‑game portfolio, which stemmed from the cancellation of several projects scheduled for release in 2028 and beyond.

Wizards of the Coast said the strength of its core businesses is unchanged. Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons continue to perform exceptionally well, and the 2027 video‑game slate that includes Exodus and Warlock remains on track. The company has launched an internal and external search for a successor to Hight.
