John Hunter Nemechek blindsided by Legacy Motor Club exit
NASCAR driver John Hunter Nemechek has expressed shock following Legacy Motor Club’s decision to part ways with him at the end of the season. Despite having an auto-renewal clause that was intended to keep his contract valid through 2027, team leadership and co-owner Jimmie Johnson informed Nemechek that he would not return to the No. 42 Toyota for the 2027 season.
Nemechek described the news as a sudden development that occurred shortly after the regular-season finale. He stated that he was blindsided by the meeting, noting, “It was definitely very surprising to me and shocking news.”
In response to the split, Nemechek indicated that the decision has provided him with intense motivation to succeed in his future endeavors. He remarked, “I have a fire lit underneath my a** right now, and we’re going to prove all parties involved that helped make this decision that they are going to regret it.” He emphasized that his priority remains winning races, even if it requires stepping back to a lower series to secure better equipment.
