John Lewis launches £800m sports and fitness store revamp across UK
John Lewis Partnership is investing an £800 million cash injection to redevelop its sports and wellbeing departments in 36 UK stores. The new concept creates up to 5,000‑square‑foot areas that combine sportswear, footwear, wearable technology, AI‑driven fitness tools and recovery services under one roof, making it the first UK retailer to offer such an integrated experience.
Stores slated for the upgrade include the flagship Oxford Street location in London, as well as sites in Liverpool, Cheadle and Glasgow. Features will include free in‑store gait analysis and products from brands such as Nike, Brooks, Patagonia, Garmin, Oura, Whoop, Therabody, Peloton, NordicTrack and Speediance. Managing director Peter Ruis said the move targets the growing fitness boom and aims to let customers “shop around a goal rather than a traditional retail category.”
