John Lewis launches flagship Platter restaurant at Oxford Street
John Lewis has launched Platter, a new in-store restaurant concept, with its flagship location opening at the Oxford Street store. The initiative is part of a wider £800 million multi-year investment programme by the retailer.
The Oxford Street flagship is designed as a theatrical hospitality experience, featuring an open kitchen for hand-stretched pizzas, a deli, a dessert parlour, a bar, and a fifth-floor terrace with 50 outdoor seats. The venue accommodates approximately 300 people. It also includes an in-store coffee roastery using exclusive single-origin Arabica beans and ‘The Residency’, a rotating pop-up space currently featuring London patisserie The Eclectic Collection.
The company intends to replace its existing ‘The Place to Eat’ restaurants with the Platter concept across 32 stores, ranging from Exeter to Edinburgh, by the end of 2027. Locations in Bluewater, Chichester, and Reading have already transitioned to the new format. This strategic shift follows trends where hospitality now accounts for over 20% of John Lewis in-store transactions, with hospitality sales increasing by nearly 10% over the past year.
