John Mayer launches Sob Rock Records and new single

Musician John Mayer has officially launched his own record label, Sob Rock Records, in collaboration with Mercury Records, a division of Universal Music Group. The label takes its name from Mayer’s 2021 album, Sob Rock.

To mark the launch, Mayer released a new solo single titled ‘Tom and Jerry’ on October 23, 2026. The track was produced by Mayer alongside Blake Slatkin, with mixing by Serban Ghenea. The recording process took place at Chaplin Recording Studio and featured collaborations with musicians including bassist Pino Palladino, drummer Aaron Sterling, percussionist Lenny Castro, and keyboardist Larry Goldings.

The single was premiered on Mayer’s SiriusXM channel, ‘Life With John Mayer’, prior to its digital release. While a full album schedule has not yet been announced, the new label is expected to serve as the platform for his future creative projects.
