John Mayer teases first solo single in five years

Singer-songwriter John Mayer has teased his first solo single in five years. On October 15, Mayer shared a black-and-white video clip on Instagram featuring a snippet of new music and the caption, “I’ll run away with you… October 23.” The teaser, which depicts a man and woman handcuffed together, has led some fans to compare the sound to Bruce Springsteen’s 1985 track “I’m on Fire.”

Mayer previously indicated that his upcoming material would be “different” and noted he was in the final stages of mixing a new track. His last solo single, “Wild Blue,” was released in 2021 as part of his album Sob Rock. While he has collaborated with other artists recently, such as Lainey Wilson, this marks his first independent solo release in several years.

In addition to the new music, Mayer is preparing for an expanded residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Following the announcement of additional dates, his 2027 performance schedule at the venue has grown to 21 shows across April, May, and June.
