John McEnroe praises Carlos Alcaraz as tennis's best development in a decade

Tennis legend John McEnroe has expressed high praise for Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, describing him as “the best thing that has happened to tennis in 10 years.” During an interview on the Spanish television program ‘La Revuelta’, the former world number one highlighted Alcaraz's unique playing style and variety, noting that the sport felt “more boring” during the Spaniard's recent four-month absence due to a wrist injury.

McEnroe also reflected on the evolution of Spanish tennis, crediting Rafael Nadal as the catalyst who transformed the nation's standing in the sport. He noted the significant gap in Grand Slam success between Spanish players and those from the United States, jokingly pointing out that while the U.S. has gone decades without a men's Grand Slam title, Nadal and Alcaraz have collectively amassed dozens of major victories.

In addition to Alcaraz and Nadal, McEnroe touched upon the emergence of new Spanish talents, such as Rafa Jodar, suggesting a continued era of dominance for the country in professional tennis.
