John McKeachie, legendary B.C. sports broadcaster, dies at 82

Renowned British Columbia sports broadcaster John McKeachie has died at the age of 82. He passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on August 11, surrounded by his family.

McKeachie enjoyed a prolific 40-year career in media, including 27 years at BCTV. He was a prominent voice for Vancouver sports, serving as a host and commentator for the Vancouver Canucks and Vancouver Whitecaps. His work also included hosting CBC Vancouver’s “McKeachie’s Hockey Talk” and writing a weekly column for The Province.

Known for his energetic delivery and distinctive personality, McKeachie was scheduled to be formally inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in the media category this fall. He was a former basketball player at the University of Victoria and began his reporting career at Victoria radio station CKDA.
