John Mercado celebrates return to Ecuador national team

Ecuadorian winger John Mercado has expressed his excitement regarding his return to the national football team. The Sparta Prague player spoke in Suwon about the significance of being called up again under the leadership of new head coach Marcelo Gallardo.

Mercado, who was previously excluded from the 2026 World Cup squad during Sebastián Beccacece's tenure, described the opportunity as ‘an enormous privilege’. He emphasized the responsibility that comes with representing the country, stating that players must perform in the best possible manner when wearing the national jersey.

The attacker arrives at the national team camp following a period of strong form in the Czech Republic, where he has been scoring goals for Sparta Prague. He noted his intention to adapt to Gallardo's tactical ideas and enjoy this new stage in his international career.
