John Morgan faces backlash over remote work surveillance policy

John Morgan, the billionaire founder of the personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan, has drawn criticism following comments regarding his firm's remote work surveillance policies. During an appearance on the ‘Iced Coffee Hour’ podcast, Morgan described a policy where employees working from home would be monitored via computer cameras.

Morgan stated that approximately 23 employees resigned within the first week of the policy being implemented. He defended the measure, suggesting the departures were due to a lack of desire to work rather than a reaction to the monitoring. He noted that the cameras would be used such that employees would appear only as ‘a pixel’ rather than being directly watched.

While Morgan has been a prominent supporter of worker-friendly initiatives in Florida, such as raising the state minimum wage to $15 an hour, his comments have sparked debate regarding the boundaries of digital monitoring and employee privacy in remote work environments.
