John Oliver makes soap opera cameo on Days of Our Lives

Talk show host John Oliver appeared in a three-episode arc on the soap opera ‘Days of Our Lives’ this August, fulfilling a specific wish list he had previously shared on ‘Last Week Tonight’. Playing the character Devlin St. John, a nerdy water inspector in Salem, Oliver’s role included specific dramatic requests such as being slapped, being a long-lost relative, and receiving a dramatic close-up.

Executive producer Ken Corday noted that the storyline was developed quickly following Oliver’s public request. Corday described Oliver as a consummate professional who arrived prepared with his lines memorized, successfully adapting to the rapid production pace of the series. During his appearance, Oliver shared scenes with veteran actors and interacted with the character Mayor Paulina Price, played by Jackée Harry.
