John Peck promoted to Detroit Tigers for MLB debut
The Detroit Tigers are promoting infield prospect John Peck from Triple-A Toledo to make his Major League debut against the Minnesota Twins. Peck, a 24-year-old seventh-round pick from Pepperdine University in 2023, has seen a rapid rise through the minor leagues following a strong offensive breakout.
Scouting reports highlight Peck as a quality defensive shortstop capable of playing second and third base. While noted for his glovework and ability to make hard contact, he has also demonstrated power and speed, recording 11 home runs and 22 stolen bases across 69 games this season. His recent performance at Triple-A has been particularly notable, where he hit .500 with a home run in his first five games.
Peck’s promotion is viewed as a successful outcome of the Tigers’ recent draft strategy, which focuses on selecting undervalued athletic players with contact skills. He joins other 2023 draft class members, such as Brett Callahan, in reaching the major leagues.
