John Roberts faces impeachment articles introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen
Representative Steve Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat and senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, has introduced six articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. The resolution, H. Res. 1309, accuses Roberts of violating the Constitution, disregarding legal obligations, and breaching his judicial oath.
Cohen alleges that under Roberts’ leadership, the Supreme Court has become a partisan political force that undermines public confidence in the judiciary. Specifically, the first article of impeachment focuses on the Court’s handling of election and redistricting cases, such as Louisiana v. Callais, which Cohen argues has disproportionately benefited Republicans.
The resolution has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. Accompanying the legislative move, an online petition demanding congressional action has reportedly gathered more than 34,000 signatures.
