John Solomon downplays prospects of election security emergency declaration
John Solomon, the head of the White House Government Transparency Taskforce, has indicated that there is currently no momentum for President Donald Trump to declare a national security emergency ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Speaking on the sidelines of the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, Solomon stated that he does not sense a widespread concern regarding election security that would necessitate such a move.
Solomon, a conservative media entrepreneur and special government employee, was instrumental in the July release of classified documents that alleged foreign election meddling and a cover-up by the “deep state”. While some political operatives, including Steve Bannon, had previously called for an emergency declaration to potentially restrict mail-in voting or deploy the National Guard to polling stations, Solomon noted that such a declaration is not currently on the table.
Efforts to increase election confidence have included a request to permit states to utilize a Department of Homeland Security database to cross-reference voter information with federal citizenship and Social Security records.
