John Ternus succeeds Tim Cook as Apple CEO

John Ternus has officially succeeded Tim Cook as the CEO of Apple, effective September 1, 2026. Previously the head of hardware engineering, Ternus has been with the company since 2001 and has held various senior leadership roles, including oversight of the iPad, AirPods, and iPhone lines.

Under the new leadership structure, Tim Cook has transitioned to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board. The succession plan was unanimously approved by Apple's board of directors. Ternus's first major public appearance as CEO occurred during the September 9 keynote event focused on the new generation of iPhone.

Outside of his professional role, Ternus is noted for his interest in high-performance automobiles, specifically owning a 700-horsepower Porsche 935.
