John Terry reveals José Mourinho used video espionage at Chelsea

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed that manager José Mourinho used video espionage to spy on Bolton Wanderers' training sessions during his first tenure at the club. According to a Netflix documentary, Mourinho utilized footage of an opponent's training to gain a competitive advantage during his title-winning seasons in the Premier League (2004/05 and 2005/06).

Assistant André Villas-Boas, who was responsible for video analysis at the time, confirmed that the team used such footage extensively. Terry noted that the recordings allowed players to hear specific instructions and vulnerabilities, such as a player being told to target defender William Gallas in the air.

The revelations highlight a historical lack of regulation regarding such tactics, contrasting with modern standards. For example, Southampton recently faced disciplinary action from the English Football League (EFL) following allegations of unauthorized filming of Middlesbrough's training sessions during the Championship play-offs.
