John Textor ordered to pay $100 million in English court over Eagle Football dispute
The English Commercial Court ruled that U.S. businessman John Textor must pay €99.6 million (about R$500 million) plus interest to the investment fund Iconic Sports Management. The judgment also includes a payment of US$22,602 (roughly R$111 million). The case stems from a 2022 agreement in which Iconic bought a 15.7% stake in Eagle Football for US$75 million, with a clause requiring Textor to repurchase the shares if the company failed to list on a stock exchange. Because the IPO did not occur, Iconic sued for breach of contract. Textor said the decision is not final and he will continue to contest it. In a related move, a Brazilian court rejected Textor’s request to block shares of Botafogo’s football‑club holding company, SAF Botafogo.
