John Textor regains governance influence in Botafogo SAF dispute
A judge in Rio de Janeiro has suspended a bad-faith litigation fine previously imposed on businessman John Textor regarding the Botafogo SAF. The decision by appellate judge Luiz Eduardo Canabarro of the 14th Private Law Chamber reverses a penalty set in September by Judge Victor Agustin Jaccoud Diz Torres.
In addition to lifting the fine, the ruling removes the judicial administrator's status as a depository for Eagle Football's shares within the Botafogo SAF. This change prevents the administrator from performing corporate acts on behalf of the shareholder.
While these developments allow Textor to regain influence over the club's governance, the ruling does not grant him full control over his equity or represent a definitive victory in the ongoing dispute for control of the SAF. Other previous judicial decisions remain in effect pending further appeals.
