John Torode discusses MasterChef dismissal after 20 years

Chef John Torode has spoken out about his dismissal from the BBC cooking competition MasterChef after a 20-year tenure. Torode described the decision as a shock that left him “absolutely, completely devastated.”

His removal followed a review into co-host Gregg Wallace, which upheld allegations of “highly offensive racist language.” Reports indicated the claims related to an incident at a 2019 wrap party. Torode stated he was informed of his sacking via a phone call from his agent while on holiday.

Torode criticized the BBC, describing the broadcaster as “a machine [that] spat me out,” noting that he had never been warned about any conduct issues during his two decades with the network. Despite his frustration, he has ruled out legal action, stating that further conflict would only cause more damage.

Since leaving the show, Torode has launched a YouTube channel, “John and Lisa’s Kitchen and Home,” alongside his wife, actress Lisa Faulkner.
